Sparks came out of my blow dryer when it hit the floor, is it okay to pick up?

While I was blow drying my hair, I began to struggle with a knot in my hair and my brush. So I stupidly set the blow dryer to the side while it was still on and it fell onto the floor. When it hit the floor, sparks came out, it stopped working, and a burning smell started to emit so I unplugged it. Is it okay to pick up or should I wait awhile?

yes, the dryer is fine, you can still use it. the lateral shock of it hitting the floor knocked some filth loose, and they shot out of the nozzle on fire. they werent really sparks. don't listen the these other people, they don't know what they are talking about

Turn the breaker off to the room where your hair dryer is located, then you can safely unplug it and throw it away. Remember to turn the breaker back on though.

It should be fine as long as there is no electricity running through it. It might be a little hot.

OK to pick up. A common cause of this type of failure in the blow dryers is failure to clean the screen in back of the dryer. This will cause the motor in the blow dryer to over heat and eventually to burn out the motor and circuit.

Plug it into a tested GFCI outlet %26amp; turn it on. If there is a short in the hair dryer, the outlet will trip. Then you know it's bad %26amp; you can throw it out. If the outlet doesn't trip, the hair dryer is fine and leave the dryer on for a couple minutes to let all the dust burn off.

That was most likely just dust dislodged and hitting the hot coil. It should be plastic so it is safe to pick up and try again. The worse thing it can do it trip the circuit breaker if it is broke. But it is probably fine.
