Damaged Hair !! help?

I have really thick long ( 5 inches past my shoulder )straight and black hair. I havent had it cut in some time ( had it cut last summer ). I stopped blow drying straightening curling anything with heat , because my mom said if i kept it up my hair will be all nasty when i grow up , and thats not what i want ( im 12 now ) . I blow dry it every time after i shower , i shower every day during the school year ) then i straighten it and sometimes curl it . This is like throughtout the year using the blow dryer and straightner.

Now its really dry its not as shiny and there are so many split ends , its so damaged . I cut the ends of my hair my self , not like a whole hair cut but the split ends at the end of my hair . Plz help ive been doing nothing with my hair for 3 days and i cant do it throughout the year. Plz gives me tips or suggestions on damaged hair i really appreciate it .

I know im supposed to get it trimmed every 6 to eight weeks but im letting it grow.

Section your hair %26amp; pin up each section while it is dry. Take each section %26amp; twist it. The split ends will stick out. Use a small pair of scissors to trim them off.

Some tips for preventing split ends:

Do not brush your hair while it is wet. Hair is the most prone to stretching and breaking while it is wet.

After you shampoo, apply conditioner %26amp; then gently comb out your hair with a wide tooth comb before your rinse out the conditioner. Run water through your hair gently - don't swirl it %26amp; twist it. Then gently gather sections to squeeze out the water.

Use a super absorbent microfiber towel to press the remaining moisture in your hair after you get out of the shower. Spray on a leave in conditioner %26amp; comb out your hair again w/ a wide tooth comb if necessary. Start at the bottom %26amp; work your way upwards to remove any tangles.

The microfiber towel is more absorbent than a conventional terry cloth towel so it will help your hair air dry faster. It will also reduce the time needed to blow dry your hair.

Only brush your hair while it is dry %26amp; use brushes w/ smooth tipped bristles that are widely spaced to avoid tearing your hair.

Joico K-Pak shampoo %26amp; conditioner are the best for dry, damaged hair.

Pure jojoba oil is a good leave in conditioner. Just run a tiny drop through the ends of your hair. It doesn't block pores %26amp; washes out easily.

Here's a couple of recipes for hair masks:

Shiny Soft Hair Treatment

In a small bowl, mash and combine: 1 avocado (1/2 for shorter hair)

1 egg yolk

1/2 teaspoon olive oil

Apply to hair and allow to remain 30 minutes or longer, then shampoo and condition as usual. http://www.care2.com/greenliving/avocado...

Banana Bread Head

* 1-2 ripe bananas

* 1-2 tablespoons honey

Directions:

Mix together banana, and honey in a blender. Wet hair with warm water and apply. For extra penetration, use plastic shower cap or wrap your hair with a towel. Wait about 20 minutes - perfect time to try the banana mask below - then rinse thoroughly, following with shampoo and conditioner as usual.

Mashed banana functions as a mucilage, much like aloe vera gel, protecting hair from environmental damage and smoothing frizzy flyaway hair. http://www.dolenutrition.com/spa_recipes...

The best way to repair damaged hair is to put in a leave in conditioner. Thats all I can suggest.

You're 12.. i see. =)

Heat products ARE bad for your hair. After you get out of the shower... don't blow dry it. Let it air dry!!!

You said you straighten it? Well.. I'd get a really good conditioner, and hair serum that will protect your hair. That when when you straighten it/curl it, the heat will "damage" the serum, and not your hair.

Even though you're growing your hair out, who the hell wants nasty looking hair? It's sick, and just..ew. Get at least 3 inches cut off. If you don't,...and you keep this up,..the damage will keep moving up the hair strand and pretty soon, you'll have to shave your head to get rid of all the damaged hairs. It would be the only way to start fresh. (i'm dead serious).

oh yea.. when you straighten your hair... do it every other day. Because I mean.. it's just really bad for your hair!!!!!

im growing my hair too and ive done a few things to make it healthier and grow fast:

1. u NEED to get a trim! no excuses

2. use a leave in conditioner every day

3. use a deep conditioner at least once a week (if u dont want to buy one a good home remedy is an egg mixed with olive oil and leave it on for as long as possible)

4. DO NOT use any form of heat product!

5. wash ur hair with cold water...it makes it shinier

6. massage ur scalp because it stimulates the hair folicles and makes it grow faster

7. also try mane n tail shampoo i know its for horses but people can use it too and it makes ur hair healthier and grow faster too

Damaged Hair !! help?

I use to straighten my hair daily too, but that has really damaged it, if you see in my pic, I have naturally curly hair, and I have decieded its best not to fight it and just go with it, I suggest you curl your hair instead by scrunching it, heres a good routine that, if you use the right products, will not damage your hair, when you get out of the shower put in a leave in conditioner, comb it through, next get a good scruching spray or gel, whatever you prefer, you will most likely have to go through a few before you find one you love, then scruch your hair, then put in a product for frizz, there is a good one by John Frieda, just scrunch that into your hair also. That will look pretty and for casual days just put it into a ponytail or a cute messy bun. Also adding a head band after you scrunch your hair can look super cute, and head bands are def. in right now, you can get some cute ones from AE and Claires, and lots of other stores, hope I helped.
